Brentwood's Late-October Calendar Is Close to Home. The Roads Out Are Another Story.

Almost none of Brentwood's dated events for the next three weeks require the freeway. The Country Mart's pumpkin patch, its last two movie nights and its Halloween morning all happen at the Mart. A new burger restaurant is set to open on San Vicente this month. The Sunday market runs on Gretna Green Way, and two restaurants are operating in Brentwood Village. The one large venue in the mix is the Getty Center, which sits inside Brentwood. This fall its freeway exit is on Caltrans' closure list.

That shapes how the month plays out. The local calendar is dense and close by. The routes that reach past it are constrained in ways that are dated and specific, and both are worth knowing before you plan a weekend.

Two closures frame the month

The first one came without notice. On Friday afternoon, October 9, LADWP crews traced a leak to the Westgate Trunkline, a main supply line that carries water through Brentwood and into Pacific Palisades. In an October 10 notice, LADWP said all eastbound lanes of Sunset Boulevard were closed between Allenford Avenue and Mandeville Canyon Road. Drinking water stayed safe and uninterrupted. To run backup pumps on a secondary line, crews also closed the Temescal Canyon Trail. Pacific Palisades customers were asked to cut back their water use voluntarily to protect system pressure. The Palisadian-Post reported on October 10 that LADWP had not given a completion estimate. No reopening notice had been published as of October 12, so check LADWP and Caltrans QuickMap before driving Sunset east of Mandeville.

The second closure is scheduled, and it will run longer. The Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehabilitation Project covers 10.2 miles between Van Nuys and Westwood. It costs about $143.7 million, and completion is expected in winter 2027. Temporary 55-mph speed reductions have been in place since May 26, 2026, and Caltrans expects them to last through winter 2026 or early spring 2027. The next heavy window is listed in Caltrans' October 2026 notice:

  • When: 10 p.m. Friday, October 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, October 26
  • Southbound I-405: reduced to three lanes between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive
  • Ramps closed: the Ventura Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound 405, plus the southbound off- and on-ramps at Valley Vista Boulevard/Sepulveda Boulevard
  • Northbound: no lane reductions, but the off-ramp to Getty Center Drive is closed

Caltrans says the dates, times and lane counts can change because of weather or operations. The same ramp closure was part of the October 2–5 weekend. That makes the Getty Center Drive exit the piece of this project closest to Brentwood's own calendar.

The Getty is Brentwood's institution, and October is its turnover month

The Getty Center has warned visitors that lane reductions or closures in the Sepulveda Pass may affect access. The timing matters more than usual this month, because three exhibitions close on Sunday, October 18. That is five days before the next extended closure weekend.

Talks fill out the week. As Brentwood News laid out, art historian Victoria Reed speaks at the Center at 6 p.m. on October 13 on "Lost, Found, and Beyond: Provenance at America's Museums," covering how American museums handle restitution cases. On October 18 at 4 p.m., Patssi Valdez and Christina Fernandez discuss their work. Valdez's early-1980s photographs hang in Every Minute Is History. The series ends on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. with "A Painterly Pursuit with Reggie Burrows Hodges," held at the Center and online. An online-only Nubia lecture with Egyptologist Kathryn Howley runs at noon on October 26.

The Center's visitor terms make a Saturday evening the easiest visit. Admission is free, but you need a timed-entry reservation. The Center is open 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed Monday. Parking costs $25 per car, $15 after 3 p.m. and $10 after 6 p.m. On Saturday, parking is free after 6 p.m. October 17 is the last Saturday before the three exhibitions close, and it falls between the two closure weekends. Some galleries are closed for renovation: the South Pavilion, the plaza level of the East Pavilion, and the North Pavilion.

Everything else sits between San Vicente and Barrington

The rest of the month doesn't depend on the Sepulveda Pass. The Brentwood Country Mart has the densest calendar. Its honor-system pumpkin patch runs October 1 through 31, and storytime is every Wednesday at 11 a.m. through October 28. Retail events include Poppy x Sugar Paper's styling event on October 16 and FFORME's trunk show at Capitol Brentwood on October 20 and 21. The Mart's homepage now lists Sézane, Varley and Orlebar Brown as open, without opening dates.

The Mart's two Friday movie nights frame the end of the month. Finding Dory screens October 23, the same evening the 405 work begins at 10 p.m. Coco follows on Friday, October 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Mart lists it as the season's final Movie Night. The next morning brings the Halloween Spectacular, with trick-or-treating from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a costume contest at 11. Earlier in the month, Brentwood Science Magnet runs its haunted house on Friday, October 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, October 17, it opens from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m., according to Brentwood News.

San Vicente is adding a restaurant. On October 1, Beverly Press reported that Burger She Wrote would open its third and largest location at 11686 San Vicente Boulevard on October 3. The listed hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

In Brentwood Village, two openings that had no firm dates earlier this year are now operating. In February, Brentwood News reported that Terroni had not announced an opening date for 155 S. Barrington Place. The operator's site now lists Terroni Brentwood with daily hours and reservations. In June, Vui Ve's 1168 S. Barrington Avenue location was described as opening "later this year." Its ordering page now lists pickup at that address with weekday and weekend hours.

The Brentwood Farmers Market holds its usual spot. The state's certified market listing, dated October 1, 2026, shows it at 741 Gretna Green Way on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., year-round.

The next three weeks, in order

Put on one timeline, the month shows the pattern. Local events fill the Fridays and weekends, and the Getty's closing dates fall just before the heaviest freeway work.

  1. Tuesday, October 13, 6 p.m.: Victoria Reed on provenance at the Getty Center.
  2. Friday, October 16: Poppy x Sugar Paper at the Country Mart; Brentwood Science Magnet haunted house, 6 to 8 p.m.
  3. Saturday, October 17: haunted house, 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; the Getty is open until 9 p.m., with free parking after 6.
  4. Sunday, October 18: Farmers Market on Gretna Green Way, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Valdez and Fernandez at the Getty, 4 p.m.; last day for Redon, Lost. Found. Returned., and Stendahl's World.
  5. Tuesday and Wednesday, October 20–21: FFORME trunk show at Capitol Brentwood.
  6. Friday, October 23: Finding Dory at the Country Mart; the southbound 405 drops to three lanes and the northbound Getty Center Drive off-ramp closes at 10 p.m.
  7. Monday, October 26, 5 a.m.: the 405 work window is scheduled to end; the Nubia lecture streams at noon.
  8. Tuesday, October 27, 6:30 p.m.: Reggie Burrows Hodges at the Getty and online.
  9. Wednesday, October 28, 11 a.m.: last October storytime at the Mart.
  10. Friday, October 30, 6 to 8 p.m.: Coco, the season's final Movie Night.
  11. Saturday, October 31, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: the Country Mart Halloween Spectacular, with the costume contest at 11.

The Sunset Boulevard closure sits outside this list because it has no end date. Until LADWP announces that the Westgate Trunkline repair is finished, eastbound Sunset between Allenford and Mandeville and the Temescal Canyon Trail should be treated as unconfirmed.

At Gary Glass Estates, we schedule private showings in Brentwood around the same details, from which ramp is closed on a given weekend to what is on the Country Mart's calendar that day. If you're thinking about a home in Brentwood this fall, request a private showing and we'll plan the visit around the neighborhood's own calendar.
